Our Mission
The Theremin Enthusiasts Club International is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the theremin. We bring together people from all over the world who share a passion for this remarkable instrument. Whether you are a performer, a builder, a researcher, or simply someone who loves the sound of the theremin, TECI is your community.
Our History
TECI was founded in 1995, at a time when the internet was still young and the theremin was a niche interest known mainly to a small group of enthusiasts. The founders, Dan Gillard and Barry Eso, created TECI to connect people who were fascinated by the theremin but had no way to find each other. They built the first TECI website, started the Levnet mailing list, and began collecting resources, articles, and plans.
Over the years, TECI grew into a truly international community. We have members from North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America. We have helped to document the history of the theremin, preserve rare recordings and photographs, and build a network of knowledge that spans the globe. We have also been involved in the creation of new theremin designs and the restoration of vintage instruments.
What We Do
- Preserve history: We collect and archive articles, interviews, photographs, and other materials related to the theremin and its history. Our Theremin Bible is a comprehensive compendium of theremin resources.
- Share knowledge: We provide plans and schematics for building your own theremin. Our Theremin Plans page is a starting point for many builders.
- Connect people: Through our Levnet mailing list, members share news, ask questions, and help each other. We also maintain a membership list that connects people from around the world.
- Promote the theremin: We share information about concerts, festivals, recordings, and other events related to the theremin. We also support the work of the Nadia Reisenberg and Clara Rockmore Foundation.
Our Community
TECI members come from all walks of life. Some are professional musicians who have made the theremin their life's work. Others are hobbyists who build theremins in their garages and basements. Some are academics who study the history and technology of the instrument. And some are simply people who heard the theremin's ethereal sound and fell in love with it. We welcome everyone.
What unites us is a shared passion for the theremin. We believe that this instrument deserves to be remembered, celebrated, and explored. We are committed to keeping its legacy alive and to helping new generations discover its magic.
